4x 5 inch, the magic of the large format. Experience the charm of the reversed Scheimpflug when taking portraits. In this compact course you will learn how to handle the analog medium format or large format camera perfectly. You will learn how to use the camera professionally under supervision. You will learn how to operate the camera and how to use it for classic applications such as architecture and technical photography. Let yourself be captivated by the fascination of self-developed negatives. We combine technically correct use with creative and artistic applications. Analog large format cameras and a black and white negative laboratory are available for the course. You will develop your negatives yourself under guidance and we will then digitize them together. You will have created unique one-offs! Large format cameras, film cassettes and films will be provided during the course. You are also welcome to bring your own camera.

Procedure:

Day 1:

• Theoretical instruction in the technology and handling of the analog large format camera.

• Portrait photography practice

• Practical part product photography

• Practical part landscape photography

Day 2:

• Theoretical instruction in the black and white negative technique

• Practical part Inserting the films into the developing cans

• Practical part SW negative development

• Practical part digital repro of the negatives

Objective: You have mastered the basics of analog large format photography and can handle a 4/5 inch camera. You will also have exposed and developed black and white negatives and know the basics of the analog black and white process.

Prerequisite: Interest in analog photography

This course offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of analog photography and create a large-format analog negative yourself. Even if you have no previous experience, you can take your first steps in analog photography in this workshop.

You will learn how to use a large format camera and receive an introduction to the various settings and techniques. You will then have the opportunity to take your own photo and develop the negative yourself. This process allows exceptional control over the final result and offers a very special analog experience.
